Committed to Education and Patient Empowerment

Founded by an experienced consultant urologist, Mr Anthony Bates FRCS, www.prostatecancersurgery.co.uk was created to bridge the information gap for patients facing prostate cancer surgery. The aim is to provide trustworthy, evidence-based information with compassion, enabling patients to confidently understand their treatment choices and feel supported throughout their journey.

About this website

Patient education

Prostate Cancer Surgery is an educational resource for men and families trying to understand prostate cancer treatment.

The aim is simple: clear information, plain language and honest discussion of treatment choices.

A prostate cancer diagnosis can be frightening, but the first job is not panic. The first job is to understand the facts: what the cancer is, how serious it appears to be, what treatment options are realistic, and what each option may mean for recovery and quality of life.

This website explains prostate cancer surgery and related treatments, including active surveillance, robotic prostatectomy, radiotherapy, focal therapy and hormone therapy. It also covers common questions about continence, erectile function, positive margins, lymph nodes, PSA follow-up, diet, exercise and recovery.

The information here is general. It does not replace a personalised consultation.

Why this site exists

Men are often asked to make important treatment decisions at a time when they are still trying to understand the language of prostate cancer.

PSA. MRI. Biopsy. Gleason score. Grade Group. Nerve-sparing. Margins. Recurrence. Hormone therapy. Continence. Erectile function.

These words matter, but they need explaining properly.

This website is written to help patients understand the main decisions before them. It is not designed to push every patient towards surgery. Surgery is right for some men. Active surveillance, radiotherapy, focal therapy or other treatments may be better for others.

Good prostate cancer care is not about selling one treatment. It is about choosing the right treatment for the right man at the right time.
